the challenge

Typical architectural aspects of the Búzios beach area are the traditional bulky facades, characterized by the towers for water tanks, window frames, roof tiles and the obvious wooden pillars that guide the design of the house. The house had little left of these characteristics. It was a first concern and a challenge to maintain the traditional construction. The client requested a light and airly house, with a swimming pool with 20 meter lanes.

the solution

In this project modern materials and assets are combined with the traditional construction. The former pillars are kept in the new house, still form the basis of the structure. The new position of the house, facing the garden and swimming pool, gives the owners more privacy and more space for recreation.

Living room facing the garden area

sit and relax on the comfortable veranda, covered by a pergola of almost 3 meters wide and 12 meters long. accomplished in light coloured wood that provides a nice shade.

next to the main kitchen, there is a small kitchen facing the dining room, so that guests may interact while food is being prepared and served.

Wooden stairs

the staircase presents an interesting balance between the solid and the open space. under the solid structure there are 2 doors that hide a linen storage and a small lavatory.

the former pillars continue in the entire new house, and transform the bathroom into a modern-rustic space.

Couple's bathroom

the hydro massage bathtub and Jacuzzi in the couple’s bathroom, with marble finish in light tints, makes this a very comfortable place.
